π¨ Illegal E-Bikes Seized β OP Pendulum in Action π¨ |
||
As part of Operation Pendulum, officers from the North Street Neighbourhood Policing Team, supported by Special Constables and colleagues from Roads Policing, have seized multiple illegal electric bikes following a dangerous incident where riders failed to stop for police. These bikes were being ridden carelessly, with no licence, no insurance, and in a manner that posed a serious risk to the public and the riders themselves. π What is Operation Pendulum? β οΈ What makes an e-bike legal? Have pedals that can be used to propel it. Have a motor with a maximum power output of 250 watts. Not assist the rider when travelling more than 15.5mph (25km/h). Be ridden by someone aged 14 or over. If a bike exceeds these limits, it is classed as a motor vehicle under the Road Traffic Act, meaning it requires: A valid driving licence. Insurance. Registration and number plates. Compliance with MOT and construction/use regulations. π The bikes seized in this incident were 42V 2000W, far exceeding the legal limit. This makes them motor vehicles, and riding them without proper documentation is a criminal offence. The riders involved had no licence, no insurance, and were operating the bikes in a careless and dangerous manner. β Weβre committed to keeping our communities safe. If you see illegal or dangerous riding, please report it to us. Every report helps us take action and prevent harm. π Report anonymously via Crimestoppers or directly through our website. | ||
